VINCI Energies and QuantumBasel collaborate on a pilot project utilising D-Wave’s quantum technology

The design of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system is one of the many challenges you will face when constructing a building. The HVAC system is designed in several steps to maximize user comfort, minimize environmental impact, and reduce material costs. “Network generation” is one of the final steps in the HVAC design process. This step ensures that all HVAC elements are properly connected while meeting safety and sustainability standards. While this step is critical, it is also computationally very expensive, if not prohibitively so.

Under their AI initiatives supported by VINCI’s Leonard innovation program, VINCI Energies has created a data-driven approach to address this computational bottleneck. Utilizing this method significantly cuts down on computation time and subsequent manual adjustments. The network generation problem, on the other hand, belongs to a class of combinatorial optimization issues that scale very poorly on conventional hardware like CPUs or GPUs.

The partnership between VINCI Energies and D-Wave and QuantumBasel demonstrates the company’s dedication to ushering in the Quantum Era. This journey unites business and academia in pursuit of QuantumBasel’s goal of democratizing the power of quantum technology.

“D-Wave, VINCI Energies and uptownBasel possess a common vision to accelerate digitalization for the betterment of industry and society,” said Damir Bogdan, CEO of uptownBasel Infinity Corp. “This collaboration reflects that shared focus on accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies – and specifically, practical quantum computing solutions – to usher in a new era of industrial construction.
