Japan: The expanded and renovated terminal at Kansai International Airport was inaugurated

  • The second and most visible phase of a huge refurbishment project began in 2020
  • New international departure area with improved trips and unrivaled commercial experience
  • The terminal’s capacity increased from 23 to 40 million people in preparation for Expo 2025 Osaka.

On December 5, 2023, VINCI Airports (VINCI Concessions) opened the international terminal at Kansai International Airport (KIX) in Osaka.

The terminal has been expanded and rebuilt to match the best passenger experience requirements. The overhaul doubled its passenger capacity from 23 million to 40 million, with more effective flow management at customs and security inspections.

The new retail area contains a variety of brands, including luxury labels, while the new eateries serve a variety of Japanese and local specialties. This is the second part of the airport’s reconfiguration and improvement project, which began in 2020 (the first phase, the domestic section of Terminal 1, opened in October 2022).
